Just Can't Stay Away

From the doctor's office, that is! We made our weekly visit today LOL! Not really but it does feel that way sometimes. FlowerChild went the first of the month with her ears. LadyBug and Cornbread went last week, him for a checkup, her for bronchitis. Last night FlowerChild was up for hours crying with her ears hurting. Another double ear infection! It was a pretty severe infection from the way our doctor acted when he examined her. He is such a sweetie. I don't know if he would like being decribed in such terms....he has all boys and loves to hunt, etc. But he truly is so kindhearted and my children think the world of him. (even if Cornbread did crawl under the chair and hide, just still as could be - it was so cute!) The doctor checked Cornbread's ears since he has been sick with the same cold. He had an infection in one ear. Arghh...I hate for my babies to be sick! Babies meaning any of my children! So everyone has had their antibiotic now. It's late and they are win...

Going Through A Trial?

Are you facing some tough situations right now? I know things aren't easy for some of my readers. I came across this quote and thought I would share it here. Though we may not know what trials wait on any of us, we can believe that, as the days in which Job wrestled with his dark maladies are the only days that make him worth remembrance, and but for which his name had never been written in the book of life, so the days through which we struggle, finding no way, but never losing the light, will be the most significant we are called to live. Robert Collyer I love that! The bad times are not just a time to grit your teeth and make it through just waiting for it to be over. No, these are days of significance that may very well be the most important days of your life! We never know what each day may hold, may it be good or bad. Your trial may be your health, your relationships, loneliness, finances, or any number of things. You may very well be at the end of the trial and not even know...

Beware, I'm Just Ranting

So is everybody else all mixed up this week thanks to the holiday Monday? I did errands yesterday instead so I feel as though today is Tuesday. I'll have to keep reminding myself it is Wednesday so I'll get everyone fed and dressed for church tonight. I don't guess it would look so good for the pastor's wife to forget church LOL. Did the dreaded grocery trip yesterday, too. There I was praying my way through the store trying to fit everything into the budget. I came to the steel wool section and was debating whether I could afford to buy SOS pads this week. Yes. You read right SOS pads. So anyway this woman comes up beside me and we are both studying the shelf. I strike up conversation by mentioning they apparently do not sell the storebrand or Brillo brand anymore, only these lavender SOS things and the huge boxes (the most expensive ones, natch). She agrees and says that they indeed are not selling a variety anymore and not the ones she likes to buy. She liked the min...

Books ARE Life!

For everything and everyone in life, it seems you can readily find a parallel in books. I suppose that is fitting because most authors of fiction will gladly admit that life itself is their greatest inspiration. Whatever the personality, whatever the lifestyle, whatever the problem......it can be found in a book. Little boys fancy themselves to be Tom Sawyer or Huck Finn. They might picture themselves smack in the middle of Robinson Crusoe. Adventure is the name of the game. Girls may see themselves in the characters that Louisa May Alcott or Jane Austen conjured up. Who hasn't lost themselves in a book whether it be Heidi, Gone With the Wind or Wuthering Heights? Of course, we can't forget the Little House on the Prairie series. There are so many classics to compare your own life to! Wondering which book or author seems to capture the essence of my life? Well, actually it isn't any of those listed above although it is a classic. You may be surprised to know that the book I...

Excitement in the Word

".....that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus." 2 Timothy 3:14 This verse literally jumped off the page at me this morning as I read the scriptures. Don't you just love when that happens for it is then that you can be sure God is saying "Look!" He is trying to grab your attention and speak to you. Yesterday FlowerChild made a new discovery, one that has thrilled her to no end and now she can't get enough of it. She realized she can read her Bible all by herself. Every time she finished her work and I had perhaps turned to help her sister or tend to the baby, she grabbed her Bible and started reading. She could not wait to be finished with her studies so she could get back to it. So when she finished she fixed up a little tent out of a blanket in the corner of the room and settled in under it with her flashlight and Bible for her "quiet time." (her w...

Mama's Pearls of Wisdom

You know, as a mother I am sometimes amazed at the words I hear coming out of my mouth. I decided it is high time I started jotting down these wonderful little moments. You know the ones. "It's gonna stick that way!" or "You put what up your nose?!!!" And yes we really had that experience one time which ended FlowerChild up in the ER no less...she decided to break off a piece of wood from our wicker bench and shove it up there! All's well that ends well. She finally started sneezing several hours later as we were STILL in the waiting area and it popped out. We got a lot of curious stares as we all hollered with joy and relief! Well, today's little pearl is a true keeper. Once again, out of sheer coincidence it involves FlowerChild. Homeschooling provides many treasured moments of opportunity. Ready? "FlowerChild! [insert real name here] STOP playing with your belly button and do your math! I promise you the answer will NOT be found there!" Oh, ...

Blessed to be Busy

It's a busy day I have planned today so I thought I would hop on for a quick post while things are relatively quiet. I've only had 3 interruptions since I got online! I posted Sunday but afterwards we had a scare. Just before time to go back to church our dog, Rosie, was bitten on the nose by a snake. Her head swelled to a huge proportion! Poor thing, her nose even split a little at the site of the bite due to the swelling. But she ate and played normally, happy as a lark. By the next day the swelling was greatly reduced and the split was even beginning to heal. Now she just has a little lump at the site with a small white line across it. The FisherMan said he had always heard if a dog has dewclaws that they are more resistant to snakebite. The old wives tales can sometimes be just that, tales. But there are some that have an element of truth to them. How about you? Have you ever heard that one? Yesterday Cornbread had his one year checkup. He was a stout little guy with wide s...
