Well, we got the first and the hardest day of VBS completed! Yeah! I ran, ran, ran all day long. We were awakened by a monsoon yesterday morning. Oh, it poured!! We had tents set up outside the church for VBS snacktime. They weren't up all the way and were laying flat on the ground. So when the rain let up The FisherMan headed over there to get them up (all by himself - what a job!). He finally came back, soaked and muddy, but victorious having conquered the waterlogged tents. He said it was like trying to raise a waterbed mattress by himself.
While he was gone I got dressed, got the children ready and fed them. When he got home and cleaned up we headed out to do our weekly errands. We had to go to the big city and meet up with The GuitarMan. He's not here this week since his church is having VBS too. More about that later! We ate lunch with him and some friends then we went to Wal-Mart. Got groceries and raced home, put away the cold stuff, and raced to the church. I still needed to finish decorating my room and I needed to finish up my lesson. I was so relieved to find out some of the other teachers had finished my decorating for me! They were my angels yesterday, ha! So I was able to focus on the lesson and even managed to review the music before the Worship Rally began.
Reviewing the music. Well! The GuitarMan was supposed to be our music man this week. But as it turned out his church was having VBS at the same time and of course, needed him to do their music. Folks from our church told him Saturday at the prayer meeting he was a traitor (said in love and good natured fun, naturally!LOL) but when he turned on the charm he was quickly forgiven! :) But then our other volunteered helper wasn't able to learn it as planned either. Oh, no! So there I was last Thursday with a whole worship rally's worth of songs with movements to memorize! This isn't really my area of talent so I was a bit intimidated. But it has turned out to be a lot of fun and I think folks were surprised the preacher's wife had it in her!
A good time was had by all and I am excited to see how the rest of the week goes. We had a good turnout and we heard of quite a few more who weren't able to come last night but want to.
Does your church have VBS? If so, do your part to participate in it, support it and pray for it. Whether it is a huge one or a small one there are little souls involved and they matter! I once took over a SS class where there was only one child. The SS teacher was discouraged because she felt it was a waste of her time to do the preparation and study only to have one child come. But I don't believe God saw it that way! And do you know within just a couple of months the class was running 6-8 children? We are no longer at that church but we heard there are so many now they had to split the class in two and have a boys and girls class! God blessed it!
VBS is no different than SS. Get excited! Sometimes people get in a bad habit of complaining about church activities. It is very discouraging to workers when they hear of hurtful remarks made by naysayers about the theme, the decorations, the time, the numbers, the mess, the inconvenience or any of the other countless complaints people come up with sometimes. Many times it might not be said directly to them but it has a way of getting back to them and inflicting the pain anyway. How awesome would it be if instead every member jumped in and did their part to use those talents to help out?! How much could God bless that? Do your part to make VBS a glory unto God in your church! Every child matters to Him!
