Artist at Work

It's been a lovely week here. The weather has been absolutely perfect, not too hot, not too cold. The leaves are changing with colors so vivid that I almost can't take it all in! I mean, have you just stopped to admire the beauty lately? The sunsets this week have been breathtaking! God's amazing artwork is at its finest in autumn, don't you think?

Yesterday afternoon the children played outside, busily piling up leaves and jumping in them, only to do it all over again. Today the weather suddenly took a turn and temperatures plummeted with freezing temperatures expected tonight. I went out and cut armloads of camellia blooms to decorate the house with. With their delicate pale blooms, I wasn't sure how well they would stand up to the freeze and I wanted an excuse to bring their beauty indoors!

Now I sit here curled up in the recliner with my cat, Tiger, trying to get warm by the fireplace. He has a hard time staying warm now that he is older (almost 16 years) and he adores the fireplace. If he doesn't have a lap to climb into (he can't jump up anymore) then he gets just as close to the fire as he can. It's so cozy to have him snuggled up with a contented purr. :)

  1. I have also been thinking about how beautiful everything is this past week. I let myself just relax and look around as I was running errands this week and the trees lining the streets downtown were the most brilliant yellow, and the skies have been so blue. My cats have been climbing all over me more as well. I miss a fireplace, lucky kitty. :)

  2. hi patty! It's so easy to get so caught up in life and forget to look around and really "see" both the beauty and our blessings. Now that I thhink about it maybe that is why God gives us autumn in all its glory, too force us to notice Him! :)

The Season of Pregnancy (updated)

I know. I have been neglecting this blog. Horribly. That's not the only thing that has been thrown by the wayside lately! It is only for a season though. Pregnancy means you must be patient with yourself and accept that sometimes you must let things slide. That also means that you have to plan in order to conserve your energy. I know if I am going somewhere later today then I don't need to rush around and try to get a lot done in the morning. Priorities must be in order. Although the morning sickness is better it isn't totally gone at this point. Whoever named it that anyway? The main thing I have been dealing with is fatigue. My blog shows it. My laundry shows it. My house shows it. Ack, everywhere shows it! I simply do not have the energy to do the bending up and down required to truly clean up, do laundry, and the vacuuming/sweeping etc. It's quite depressing actually! So I do a little here, do a little there. I manage the necessities such as homeschooling, cooking, ...

Happenings Around Here

Well, another dog lost. :( This time it wasn't a car but something more sinister...a rattlesnake. She was bitten yesterday evening and lasted about 4 1/2 hours. Poor little Chi-Chi is only about 6 pounds or so and just couldn't take the venom. LadyBug seems to be taking it the hardest among the children. Our Bassett Hound, Daisy, and Chi-Chi are the best of friends and poor Daisy has spent the day looking for her. So sad. The GuitarMan has finished his semester and is home now. I introduced him to Pilates this morning. We worked out together. Ha ha, now if that wasn't a sight I just don't know what would be! He has a new found admiration for it now though. Afterwards I cut the FisherMan's hair outside under the plum tree while the children played in the pool. He asked if there was a way we could be any more redneck. I had plenty of ideas on that if he wanted but he didn't want to take part lol. Apparently it was a rhetorical question. This week was one of apprec...

Glory Bread and Lucky Tomatoes

I have never taught my girls any memorized prayers or blessings, preferring instead to just encourage them to pray from the heart. But recently FlowerChild asked about "that blessing about God is good" and I decided since she had an interest I would teach it to them. So if she happens to mention it at snack time I will help her say it. Well, I noticed she was getting a line a bit off the other day. Instead of "Thank you, Lord, for this daily bread" she was saying "Thank you, Lord, for this glory bread." Glory bread. My, my. From the lips of a babe comes a deep theological truth. We should all be partaking of our "glory bread" and thanking God for it on a daily basis. Yet how many times do we feel hungry and try to fill it with worldly junk food instead of turning to pure healthy spiritual food? We get physically hungry and scarf down empty prepackaged calories. Sometimes it's the Twinkies. Sometimes it's a burger. Usually we walk right pa...
