One Step Closer

In our state we have to register under a church school, in order to homeschool. This gives you a "covering" or an "umbrella" to homeschool under. They keep your school records and produce your transcript should the time come to transfer or start college. I've been looking for one for a while now. There are plenty of them out there but I was running into overpriced tuition or unreturned phone calls. Here it is August and I didn't have one yet. I was getting a little panicky! But I kept praying over it and asking God to lead me to the right one.

Then The GuitarMan went over to a neighboring town to help out a friend with a Kid's Rally. He thought FlowerChild might enjoy it, too so we brought her over at the appointed time. He knows many of the people there so when we walked in he immediately scooped up Cornbread to take him around and show everybody "Little Me" as he called him. Cornbread really is a miniature of him!

As we stood there chatting with folks a woman came up to ask my husband about locating a scripture. When we met I realized she was one of the homeschool coordinators I had been trying to reach! She was a real sweetheart and took the time right then to give me an overview of their school. This, even though she was about to dress up as a pirate and lead a Bible Study! Talk about multi-tasking! Everything sounded exactly like what I was looking for so we scheduled the paperwork and interview for today.

I had a great time talking with her. She has a very warm personality and a real love for teaching that came through in our conversation. I think she will be a big help should I run into any questions. She had not heard of Heart of Dakota but was very interested when I told her about the layout. I am anxious to get her take on it. She had very positive things to say about Saxon Math and Abeka Reading. Our experience with Saxon was not a very good one but I like what she said about the approach for younger students. I am going to check it out again.

So we are one step closer to being ready for school to begin. The girls are wanting to go shopping for school supplies! I have to admit I love it too! Wal-Mart has some really cute notebooks out right now with Christian themes geared towards guys or gals. Some come with neat stickers too. So you may want to look for them if you or your children might like them. I also noticed that one display of say, glue or pencil boxes, for instance, might be one price but if you kept looking there would be a cheaper display of the same items elsewhere. So if you are on a very tight budget for school supplies go when you can take the time to look and then scan your prices on a price checker before heading to the register.

The Season of Pregnancy (updated)

I know. I have been neglecting this blog. Horribly. That's not the only thing that has been thrown by the wayside lately! It is only for a season though. Pregnancy means you must be patient with yourself and accept that sometimes you must let things slide. That also means that you have to plan in order to conserve your energy. I know if I am going somewhere later today then I don't need to rush around and try to get a lot done in the morning. Priorities must be in order. Although the morning sickness is better it isn't totally gone at this point. Whoever named it that anyway? The main thing I have been dealing with is fatigue. My blog shows it. My laundry shows it. My house shows it. Ack, everywhere shows it! I simply do not have the energy to do the bending up and down required to truly clean up, do laundry, and the vacuuming/sweeping etc. It's quite depressing actually! So I do a little here, do a little there. I manage the necessities such as homeschooling, cooking, ...

Latest on GuitarMan

I haven't made a practice of sharing photos with a full facial view on here. However the GuitarMan isn't too worried about that LOL! With many of you praying for him I thought you might like to have an idea of who he is. He is still in a lot of pain. His fingers are all black and blue and his entire hand is swollen. His hand is cut straight across his fingers and across the bottom of his hand. Once again, very obvious what could have happened. He's blown away by everyone caring and checking in him and the prayers on his behalf. He says to thank you all!

Power Bills

We lucked out last month on our power bill. We received a credit on our bill which helped tremendously. A lot of folks were shocked at how high their bills were, however. I can't blame them! Some of the figures I heard were outrageous! $500-600, one even $1200! One thing that got me was that many of these people work outside the home and their children are in school or daycare so the house stands empty all day. Not only that, but their families are much smaller so things like the washer, dryer, or stove would not be used as frequently. Shouldn't their bill be lower than ours? I think it has everyone trying to come up with ways to save on power. There are some things that are a given. Good insulation and windows go a long way towards helping lower a bill. When we first moved into our home the windows were very old. Some were cracked or even broken. The church eventually replaced them which was a huge blessing! But what were we to do in the meantime? Well, one way is to buy th...
