Well, it has rained....and rained....and rained....you get the picture! It did stop long enough this afternoon to take advantage of the soft, wet ground to get some weeding done in the herb garden and the flower beds. The rain makes everything so clean at first but then here comes the mud! Then here comes the mud all in the house!
My girls always promise they won't get wet and muddy but then when they get outside they just can't resist. Yesterday they went out in their cute, little rain boots and just had a blast. I told them no getting wet and muddy. "Yes, ma'am" they both exclaimed. Well, I don't even have to tell you how that turned out!
But the funniest thing happened. We had corrected them about jumping and stomping in the puddles in the grass because it makes holes and we explained someone could get hurt. Well, it continued anyway.
Hmmmm. Mama was not impressed. So I brought them to timeout and we had a life discussion. Now, honestly, I think it would have been just fine to let LadyBug up and she would have toddled on off to ride her bike and been happy as a pig in sunshine. But she was a guilty party too and to be fair I had to include her in this, even if she had just been following her big sister.
Well, FlowerChild was more interested in just getting through it and back to the action than truly listening and obeying. So what to do? I thought about sending them inside. But that would be more of a punishment for me than for them! Neither did I want to guard the mud holes.
So as we talked and I explained again about it creating holes that would have to be repaired, the perfect solution occurred to me. I said that the next person who jumped in the mud puddles would pay for the sand to fix the holes. LOL FlowerChild said, "What? Noooo!" (Ha, that was a wail, by the way, not an obstinate no.) "Oh, yes," I said," There will be no more making holes unless you are willing to pay for the repairs."
Well, the rest of the outdoor time was much better. Only one reminder was needed and you should have seen her face! Apparently her shopping plans did not include purchasing sand!
