What a wonderful Christmas we had! Christmas Eve we traveled to my sister-in-law's house. Our whole family does not fit in one vehicle and of course the children wanted to ride with their big brother in his. So mama went with them and daddy got "alone time " in our car which translates to "it's too quiet time!" I really enjoyed spending time with my all-grown-up son. You know, you love your children but it is a true blessing to like them as a person. He is like his daddy in that he knows how to just crack me up! We laughed like crazy, he shared music with me and we talked serious stuff as well. It was nice to spend the day with my sister-in-law and her (grown) children. The time always seems too short when we go back which is not often enough. We got home late that evening. Unfortunately the children slept all the way home and were ready to rock and roll when we got here. So by the time they all went to bed and I got presents wrapped it was after one in the morning. Every year I say "never again" and swear I will get everything wrapped early. Then I am always up Christmas Eve wrapping like crazy! See, we don't ever put any presents out until Christmas morning. Well, as usual it was a short night. And surprise, surprise they were up early, ready to start the day!
Opening presents was a nice, leisurely time. Then the children played with their new toys and watched a new movie while I put the ham on to cook. Later they helped cook everything else and then went outside for a few minutes to play. (The neighbor's dog came over to wish us a merry Christmas so of course the little ones felt obligated to go outside and be sociable! ) After we ate I let them each mix up and bake their own little birthday cake for Jesus.
While the cakes cooled The Fisherman took the children out again and set up the new soccer goal. Our Flowerchild loves soccer and played for the first time this year. Guitar Man is quite the athlete but soccer was never his sport. So all of this has been new for us. We have discovered that a soccer goal works best when you have a soccer ball to kick! Can you believe we forgot to buy a ball for the child?! But hey this girl adapts! She found a ball in the yard to kick and put this little see-saw snail thing they have right in front of the goal to be the goalie. Meanwhile, Ladybug held her baby for her while she played. We asked Ladybug early on in our Fall Soccer adventure if she would like to play. She said she liked to watch her sister but wasn't so sure about playing and then declared in her little Southern accent "But dey wun too much. Maybe if dey wawk!" She would much rather play in the dirt and cook. At this point in my life I can't much blame her!
So after that they came in, got cleaned up and proceeded to decorate their cakes any way they liked. Which included decorating the fronts of their shirts in a lovely shade of buttercream chocolate.
It all ended much too quickly. It's hard to believe Christmas has already passed. I guess it sounds a little cliche' but hang on to your Christmas spirit! Christ's joy is year-round!
