What's For Supper, Mama?

I had a request to share our menu plans more often but I did not get to it as planned. Sorry! :) So here I am today to give a few ideas. Here is what we had this week. MONDAY Roasted chicken (from the grocery store deli) rice with gravy sliced cucumber biscuits TUESDAY Mexican chicken casserole....made from the leftover chicken (this was a new recipe I tried from the internet - we hated it, it was awful! LOL but I am going to use the sauce part of the recipe to make a whole new recipe - I'll let you know how that goes!) WEDNESDAY tater tot casserole (different from the Duggar version) fresh peas macaroni and cheese sliced tomatoes THURSDAY Wasn't what I had planned but was by special request from The GuitarMan fried chicken (1/2 buffalo wings 1/2 fried chicken legs) french fries FRIDAY (Here again, not what I had planned but we need to eat them up and my girls are going to a special Girls Night for K-6th at a church in another town so no time to cook...they are so excited!) le...

Fruity Pebbles in My Shoes...

....tomato slice in the hallway....crayons in the car window. Ah, yes the life of a parent. When I was thinking of what to name this blog I remembered the time my sweet husband went to put on his dress shoes for church only to feel an odd squish. "Fruity pebbles in my shoes," he said. I thought about naming my blog that LOL. As for the tomato in the hallway, well, that happened this morning. No clue where that came from. And who hasn't had a crayon melt in the window or car seat? I'm all for keeping the house a home but at times it catches up with all of us. Do what you can to keep it sanitary but don't fret too much if the little surprises happen. One of these days everything will stay where you left it and there will be no crayons or kid's cereal to be found in your cupboards. So today if you happen to slip your foot into your shoe only to be greeted by a squish try to see the humour in it. Although if you also have pets and it smells anything but fruity w...

Another Milestone

My babies are growing up! Today my girls both did something that makes them look more grown up. FlowerChild went first but LadyBug did not want to do it. Later on though, once she saw that her sister had made it through, she decided to go for it. They both had their ears pierced! FlowerChild chose large, sparkly pink studs. LadyBug chose little, dainty green studs. They both needed Mama to hold their hand but neither one cried. They look so pretty! Tomorrow we will count 6 weeks out on the calendar so they can see when these earrings can come out. They are already looking at the earring selection to see what they want next!

Nice Fourth

What a nice holiday weekend. We had a good turnout Saturday night for the cottage prayer meeting. After the devotional and prayer time we ate grilled hot dogs and hamburgers The FisherMan had cooked along with the yummy sides everyone brought. It was followed by some sinfully delicious desserts! Eventually everyone drifted to the backyard where the children played in the pool. They had a blast! The resident dog-thats-not-our-dog-but-lives-here-anyway was in hog heaven with so many people to give him a little attention. When the men all headed over to the church to put up a sign for VBS Cornbread thought he was supposed to go, too! He toddled around and finally settled down on the floor of the gazebo with a pot, a mixing bowl and spoon and some dirt and there he played happily. As the children began to grow tired folks began to leave until we were left with 3 tired little ones of our own. They were asleep in no time. The GuitarMan was at the beach for the fireworks display. We didn'...

Are We The Land of the Free?

Hope everyone is planning a nice Fourth of July! We will be having another cottage prayer meeting tonight and this time it is at our house. I read something this week that really made me think and I would like to share those thoughts with you. Usually on the Fourth we focus on our freedom and invariably you hear prayers of thankfulness for our freedom to worship here in the United States. As Christians we have at times almost been guilty of smugness, assuming that we would always have that privilege. Persecution was reserved for those 'other' places far removed from our daily life. We might say a prayer or drop money in a missions offering but when you got right down to it, we were untouchable. After all, wasn't our country founded on Christian principles? We have the Constitution on our side! Then the lawsuits began. Atheists were concerned that their children were being forced to suffer through a prayer at school. So we had to remove that. But that is just separation of...

Would You Say She Might be Bossy?

My children were squabbling yesterday over some little unimportant something when LadyBug decided to set the matter straight. In no uncertain terms, with a loud shriek in her voice, she informed FlowerChild that she does not like her and she is not going to play with her for one hundred years!!! Silence. I thought, "Uh, oh. Here come the hurt feelings and crying." Then I hear in a patronizing tone, "LadyBug. [insert real name] It's not one hundred years. It's one hundred days." Sigh. What is it about big sisters anyway? Can't even fuss without being corrected! :) PS And by the way, they were playing with each other again within one hundred SECONDS ! LOL

What Are You Standing For?

If you look around hard enough...well, not even very hard actually....you will encounter someone who lives differently from you due to convictions they feel are from God. In fact, when you come right down to it, all Christians should have some basic convictions that steer their choices in life. I'm sure you've heard that saying, "You've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything." So my question is, "What are you standing for?" When I look around the internet I see a lot of bloggers that have strong ideas about how to live. Sometimes you will meet people IRL that are the same way. Some are quiverfull. Some homeschool. Some work outside the home. Some have home businesses. Some are dresses only. Everywhere you look there are these ideas that scream to put you in a box. Let's face it. Even if you absolutely love your job, aren't you a lot more than just a working woman? If you happen to wear only dresses, aren't you much more th...
