Puppies, Puppies Everywhere!

Aren't they cute? We have tagged the one in the dogbowl "Boots" and he seems to make his way into a lot of the pictures. The puppies will definitely be used to children! Those girls are all over them all the time. They treat them like babies and actually rock them to sleep! We have 8 girls and 2 boys. (puppies, that is!) They range in colors from black, black and white, black and tan, gray/silver, to even one blond. Some have short hair like the mother and some have long hair like the father. Now to find some homes! All my local readers, HELP ME OUT! :o)

The Author of Discouragement

Ugh! I hate feeling discouraged or depressed! I am typically an ENcourager always trying to look on the bright side and find Christ in the situation. And that is also my vision for this blog. But looking on the bright side of something means acknowledging there is darkness present. One thing I sometimes notice, particularly in Christian circles, is this need to act like everything is perfect in their life. They do everything perfectly, from parenting to housekeeping to relationships. If they open the door of being imperfect (i.e. human) it is only a crack and only to show how easy it should be to jump back to perfectionism. But the truth is we live in a fallen world. We deal with hurt, disappointment and fear. We deal with loss. People. Jobs. Dreams. People we love reject us. Or let us down. We may try to insulate ourselves and our homes from the world but still it intrudes. Often people draw the conclusion that they just don't measure up. They just aren't good enough. But it i...

What's in a Name?

It's good to be home! I took little "Cornbread" to the doctor this afternoon, then had errands and had to wait on the prescriptions, then still had to get back home. Tiring, especially when you have 3 sick, irritable children! But anyhoo, I'm glad I followed my instincts and took him in. I was right it was an ear infection. (Odd and random fact about me: I can often smell an ear infection. Many years of working in early childhood education + mommy to many = strange and gross talents!) Had I waited on huge symptoms to appear, he would have been so miserable! As it stands though, it is only one ear and he has a pus pocket in his throat (sorry, another gross item there) so that is probably why he isn't eating. Well, shifting gears now, if you look back you will see a post I did recently on the nicknames I use for my family on this blog. In real life, I often get asked about my children's names. It's something that (most) people put a lot of thought into. Did ...

Catching Up

Still battling stuffy noses around here, along with a cough now. But so far it has been confined to the children with those of us taller than 4 ft doing our best to avoid their sneezes and snotty kisses! Ever notice the snottier their nose gets the more affectionate the child gets? LOL I am afraid Cornbread may be getting an ear infection. He and LadyBug are having a worse time of it than FlowerChild. Amidst all that I managed to cook the pork loin I had mentioned in my menu plan. It was amazing! I mixed up a spicy rub to put on it and the FisherMan grilled it. Yum! Then he grilled the avocado and I stuffed it with a homemade apple-chipotle mix. Here is a picture. It turned out better than any restaurant meal! I swear, if one could eat like this every night, eating out would not even be a temptation! (excuse the beat up cookie sheet-our hunger sent us beyond caring about food presentation!) The GuitarMan was disappointed he wasn't home last night for the meal. He stayed at school ...

Joy in the Milky Way

Well, all my little chickadees went to sleep by 8:00 and stayed asleep! In my last post I mentioned catching up on my housework if they did that. Didn't do it. My husband had sermon prep to work on tonight after he went on visitation. So we sat comfortably together, him working over at the desk, me enjoying an ENTIRE chick flick, plus a Milky Way he brought me that I did not even have to hide while I ate it! It was awesome! .....sorry, but it makes me a bit giddy to think of! Find joy in the small things in life. The big things don't come every day, in fact there are no promises of BIG things that are joyful. Choose to find something to be happy and positive about every day. A few things I noticed today: 1. That Milky Way I mentioned. 2. The fact that hubby thought to get it for me just because he thought I might like one. 3. The curve of LadyBug's cheek and the twinkle in her eye when she laughed this afternoon. 4. Holding the FlowerChild and rocking her to sleep tonight. ...

Make a Sign for the Door

Sick children in the house! Runny noses...coughing....sore throat....as their doctor said his father used to say when coming out of the church nursery when people brought their sick children...unclean!unclean! My babies are just pitiful sick this week. They feel so bad and all they want is to be held or snuggle under their blankets and watch movies. Cornbread had a well baby checkup Tuesday (like when he was WELL) and at that point Ladybug was sick so I let the doctor check her out too. He gave us samples of some medicine that he is hoping will bring some relief. Now all my little ones are sick with it so I figure it is only a matter of time before the whole family has it. My house is a wreck but I have that big pot of Pasta E Fagioli in the fridge so at least I am not worrying with cooking anything tonight. Maybe I can catch up a little on the housework if my cuties go to sleep later. At least if they actually sleep at the same time! Otherwise I will continue to snuggle under a pile o...
